Lay Eucharistic Ministers
Welcome to the Lay Eucharistic Ministers (LEM) Program Management page.
Your ministry as a LEM is an essential part of the celebration of Holy Eucharists on Sundays and during the week. LEM scheduling for the Sunday and daily celebration of the Holy Eucharist is now completely on-line at www.docs.google.com (click on "LEM Schedule" on the menu at the right side of this page). If you are a LEM and do not know the e-mail address and password needed to sign in to the LEM Google Docs page, please e-mail the LEM Coordinator to request the sign-in information.
Except during the summer, most Sundays we need 12 to 13 LEMs: two for the 7:30 AM Holy Eucharist, two for the 5:00 PM Holy Eucharist, three to four for the 9:00 AM Holy Eucharist (plus one non-vested LEM to serve as an intercessor when there is no Baptism), and three for the 11:15 AM Holy Eucharist (plus one non-vested LEM to serve as an intercessor when there is no Baptism). Given the number of active LEMs in the parish, if each LEM serves and average of two to three times per month, we will have sufficient LEM coverage at all Sunday celebrations of the Holy Eucharist.
Daily celebrations of the Holy Eucharist are also an important part of the spiritual life of our parish, and your participation as LEMs at these services not only provides important assistance to the celebrant (reading the intercessions and assisting with the administration of communion), but also ensures that the celebration of the Eucharist will be able to take place, since there must be at least one other person present in order for the priest to celebrate Holy Eucharist. Except during Lent, daily Holy Eucharists are celebrated on Tuesdays at 6:30 PM, Wednesdays at 7:00 AM and Thursdays as 12:15 PM. Over the years, a small handful of LEMs have covered daily Holy Eucharists. However, we need to expand that coverage to ensure that a LEM is available for each daily celebration of the Holy Eucharist. If each LEM serves at least four daily Holy Eucharists per year we will have sufficient LEM coverage.
In addition to on-line scheduling for the Sunday and Daily Holy Eucharist, LEMs should be mindful of e-mail requests from the LEM Coordinator, the Administrative Associate, or members of the clergy requesting your service at weddings and funerals.
If you will be unable to serve as a LEM at a time when you are scheduled, it is your responsibility to find a substitute. You may do so by contacting another LEM directly or by sending an e-mail to the LEM e-mail distribution list.
Please review the Resource Documents & Links section below for useful information in support you in this ministry. Please visit this page from time-to-time as new information will be added.
Please e-mail the LEM Coordinator if you have any questions about this ministry.
Blessings and peace,
Michael S. Jones
